it all started IN 2003
Founders Blair O’Donovan and Matt Boyd met while Matt was in 11th grade and playing basketball for Magruder, and Blair was beginning his career as a strength and conditioning coach.
Blair began to train Matt twice a week and Blair’s passion for basketball and training, coupled with the environment of his classes left an impression on Matt. After just one year, Matt knew that he had found his career calling. As a senior at Magruder, Matt began a full-time internship working under Blair and received his strength and conditioning certification at 18 years old, and immediately began working with athletes. Matt would eventually go on to major in Exercise Science at George Washington University, while continuing his informal mentorship program under Blair.
While Matt was pursuing his degree, Blair became the Head Strength & Conditioning coach for the nationally renowned, Nike Elite Gonzaga High School basketball program and was busy building his client list. In 2009, Blair started taking clients at a small, nondescript gym in Rockville. It was from this hole-in-the-wall gym that Blair found his stride and became so well known that NBA athletes began traveling to Rockville just to work with him.
In 2013, when Matt had been training clients out of Sport and Health for a few years after college, Blair asked him to join forces and they began working together out of the same Rockville gym Blair had been in for years.
After just one year, with space in the gym completely filled, Matt and Blair knew it was time to expand. So in early 2014, after the help of friends, family, and people who believed in them, Healthy Baller went from dream to reality.
Built on a foundation of hard work, dedication to each other and our athletes, and a pure desire to help athletes be their best, Healthy Baller is a perfect reflection of what brought Blair and Matt together over 15 years ago.
